Kings Lynn & District Motor Club is an active, multi-disciplinary club for motoring and, in particular, motorsport enthusiasts. KLDMC is affiliated to the UK Motor Sports Association and is one of the most active and thriving Clubs in the east of England. We currently have around 130 members and are always looking for new members to keep the Club at the forefront of East Anglian motorsport. We have a wide ranging membership base including many juniors - our next generation of 'petrol heads'! If you are interested in joining us, click here for further information on membership.
Our membership includes a wide range of motoring enthusiasts involved in all aspects of motorsport and who share an interest in all types of cars from classics to modern day. A core group of our Club members is primarily involved with rallying from local 12 car events through Road Rallies to Enduro and Stage rallying. We are also proud of our enthusiastic group of marshals who help out at many national events - we have a number of 'stage commanders' amongst our midst as well as qualified radio operators. One of our marshals has even flown to marshal on the New Zealand round of the World Championship! History The origins of the club date back to the days of Raymond Mays and the then BRM Racing Equipe. It was during one of Raymond's talks to a local organisation to raise funds for the team that sparked off the idea of a BRM Supporters Club. This club was duly formed in the early 50's and, primarily held fund raising events for the team. KL&DMC was formed in April 1953 as an offshoot of the BRM supporters club and has been going strong ever since. Catchment Area KL&DMC covers a wide area from Littleport in the South, to Swaffham and Fakenham in the East and Spalding in the West. The OS Maps regularly used are 131, 132, 142, 143 and 144 which cover a large part of the 'flat fens' and the twisty west Norfolk lanes. We also have a number of regular club members from further afield. Committee
The Club Committee is made up of an active group of members who compete as well as marshal and help organise events both within and outside the Club. Healthy discussion is always to be had, but above all, the members of the Committee are avid motor sport fans only too eager not only to get enjoyment from motorsport, but also to give enjoyment to others. The Committee usually meets at The Wildfowler public house, Terrington St Clement on the third Monday of the month.
Events
In the early years the club regularly organised autotests, rallies and autocross events with the main event in the 1950s and early 60s being the Hunstanton Rally which ended with an autotest on the seaside promenade! In the past, the club has organised several stage rallies including The Tour of Norfolk in the early 1990s and co-promoted events at Watton and West Raynham airfields. The Club was based until the mid-1980s at The Red Cat Hotel at North Wootton, run by the Irwin family. Today, the Club organises one or two clubnight event(s) per month, ranging from 12 car rallies to gymkhanas. Clubnights are held on the first and occasionally the third Wednesday of each month but venues vary according to the event. See Club Calendar. A further two open events are organised each year. The main event is the Lynn Charity Stages which is a single venue stage rally which will take place in November at Sculthorpe. The second, in late June or early July each year, is the Vintage and Classic Car Rally which attracts entrants from all over the region and finishes at such Norfolk stately homes as Sandringham, Houghton and Holkham. We are proud of the friendly, efficient organisation for which our main events have become known. This page was last updated on 25 March 2008. |
